Maple-Leaf Spaghetti Magnet:
|
Materials:
- Uncooked spaghetti
- Adhesive-backed magnet
- Green food coloring
- Cardboard
- Recycled margarine container
- Styrofoam vegetable trays
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Spoon - for mixing
|
|
|
Instructions:
- Draw and cut out a maple-leaf shape on a piece of cardboard.
- Pour 50ml (1/4 cup) of white glue into an empty margarine container.
- Add 2-3 drops of green food coloring to the glue. Mix well, until the color is uniform.
- Place the cardboard leaf into a styrofoam vegetable tray. This will be your work surface.
- Paint the entire surface of the cardboard leaf with the colored glue.
- Break spaghetti sticks half. Begin lining up the spaghetti sticks in a single direction on your leaf. You want to make sure that the spaghetti is adhering to the glue.
- Leave the spaghetti untrimmed at this point. You will trim around the shape later.
- Next, cover the untrimmed spaghetti with glue-coloring so that it is completely colored.
- Let the project dry on a clean styrofoam tray.
- Once the glue has dried, carefully cut around the edges of the cardboard shape to remove the excess spaghetti. It is helpful to turn the spaghetti-side down when you are cutting the spaghetti.
- Repair jagged edges with glue and pieces of trimmed spaghetti. Allow to dry a second time.
- Adhere two magnets to the center of the cardboard back.
This project also makes a great lapel pin. Just use a pin backing instead of a sticky-backed magnet!

Fancy Spiral-Pasta Necklace:
|
Materials:
- Long and short uncooked spiral pasta
- Poster paints - including a rich gold color
- Paintbrushes
- Thin colored ribbons
- Clear varnish or nail polish - for sealing the pieces
- Scissors
- Newspaper
|
|
|
Instructions:
- Spread newspaper to protect your work surface.
- Paint long spiral pasta one color. Red, green, or blue works well for the long pasta.
Note: It is best to paint only one side of the pasta, then allow it to dry before painting the other side. Otherwise, you will have ugly bits of newspaper stuck into the paint when it dries.
- Once the paint has dried, brush a thick layer of clear nail polish over the painted pasta. Again, you may want to varnish the pasta one side at a time - or you will have newspaper sticking onto your pasta.
- Once the nail polish has dried, cut a piece of colored ribbon to necklace length.
- Thread the painted pasta onto the ribbon and tie the ends into a lovely bow.
There you have it, a lovely piece of jewelry that is super fun to make!

Materials:
- Bratz™ coloring book
- Felt in bright colors - be sure to have flesh colored felt as well.
- Tracing paper
- Carbon paper
- Thin cardboard or posterboard
- Black ribbon
- Lampshade ring - or wooden embroidery ring
- Large needle and colorful embroidery string
- Fabric glue
|
|
|
Instructions:
Tracing The Images:
- Use the tracing paper and copy a girl from the coloring book. Try to choose a fairly simple image to work with.
- Transfer the image onto cardboard using the carbon paper.
- Cut around the outline of the cardboard girl.
Preparing the Felt Images:
- Next, Use a piece of flesh colored felt and a piece of black felt stacked together. Trace around the cardboard girl, and cut out the felt images.
- Glue the flesh-colored felt onto one side of the cardboard. Glue the black felt onto the other side of the cardboard.
- Next, use colored felt to make clothes, accessories, facial features and hair for your girl.
- Glue on the clothes and facial features.
- Make several of these felt girls.
Note: Keep it simple! Instead of trying to create the entire girl, make a face-mobile... In this way you can concentrate on just the facial features and hairstyles alone, without adding in the extra difficulty of clothes.
Hanging The Mobile:
- Sew a long piece of colored thread with a knot on one end to the middle-top of felt piece. Do this to all of the felt pieces that you created.
- Next, tie the felt pieces at different lengths around the lampshade ring. This creates visual interest in the overall mobile.
- To hang the mobile, tie three ribbons of equal length around the lampshade ring.
- Take the ends of the ribbon and knot them together so that the mobile is level when it is hung.
If you want a craft challenge you can make your images very detailed... or you can keep it simple. Either way, this is a really great party project!
