Keepsake Silhouette Portraits
|
Materials:
- Sheets of white paper or newsprint 45cm x 60cm (18in. x 24in.)
- A bright desk lamp that you can aim.
- Black art paper 45cm x 60cm (18in. x 24in.)
- Masking tape
- Pencil and white pencil
- Scissors
- Glue Stick

Instructions:
- Tape the large sheet of white paper to the wall. Center the paper so that your model's silouette will appear directly in the middle of the paper.
- Sit the model sideways on a stool about 30cm (12in.) away from the paper on the wall.
- Shine the lamp at the person's head. Turn off all other lighting. Adjust the lamp so that the persons shadow is clearly in focus on the paper.
- With your pencil carefully trace around the edge of the shadow on the paper.
- Once you have traced completely around the shadow, remove the paper from the wall and cut out the outline.
- Place the white head shape on the black construction paper. Use the white pencil to trace around it, and then cut out the black head shape.
- Glue the black silhouette to a light colored piece of construction paper. You can also create a fanciful construction paper frame by glueing beautiful cut-out designs around the silhouette.
- Finally, write the date and the name of the person on the back of each silhouette. These beautiful portraits will be cherished keepsakes for years to come!

Easy Stained Glass Window
|
Materials:
- White bond paper 22cm X 27cm (8-1/2in. x 11in.)
- Black construction paper or black heavy art paper
- Scraps of tissue paper in a variety of bright colors
- Scissors
- Crafting knife
- white glue, glue stick, and glue brush

Instructions:
- Select an floral or scenic image with large blocks color and distinctive outlines.
- Enlarge the image to the size that you want for your window.
- Tape the pattern to the top sheet of two stacked black pieces of paper.
- Carefully cut out some internal blocks of color in your drawing using the crafting knife. Cut through all three sheets of papers...Note: These cut-out areas are where the tissue paper will be placed. So, be sure to select these areas very artfully.
- When you are finished cutting, remove the top white pattern paper.
- Dab glue on the back of the black outline where the cut-outs were placed.
- Lay tissue paper over these cut-out areas and press firmly into place. Be careful to ensure that the tissue paper doesn't wrinkle or pucker.
- Trim off excess tissue paper around each cut-out area.
- Continue until you have completely covered all of your cut out areas with pieces of tissue paper.
- Next, glue the second black tracing over the first - matching up the designs carefully. This creates a stained glass window that can be viewed from either side.

Primitive Clay Paperweights
|
Materials:
- Fast drying clay
- Pipe cleaners
- Earth-colored water-based paints
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Newspaper
- Sponge

Instructions:
- Draw a primitive stick figure scene on a sheet of white drawing paper... Take inspiration from pictures shown in national science magazines or use your imagination!
- Once you have drawn the image, then bend pipe cleaners to follow the lines of the your design.
- Take a piece of clay and flatten it with your fingers and palms until it is the thickness of a piece of tile.
- At this point, shape or cut the clay into a medium-sized square. The square should be large enough to incorporate your design.
- Press the shaped pipe cleaners into the clay to leave an impression. Remove the pipe cleaners carefully.
- Place the clay square in the on cookie sheet. Bake for 1-1/2 hours at 200 degrees F (94 degrees celcius).
- Once the clay is completely dry, then sponge earthy-colored paints over the clay piece. Sponge the paint randomly so that you are creating an authentic effect of stone.
- Finally, use a paintbrush to paint and highlight the grooves of your design. Use a dark-colored paint for this.
- Once the paint is dry, you will have a wonderful momento from this terrific party!
